Integrated Care

TWS recognizes the importance of attention to the academic, social, and emotional needs of our students regardless of faith, cultural, racial, or ethnic background by ensuring all of our students are recognized and respected for who they are. Students at TWS come from local and international communities. Our counselors prepare our students for entrance into universities.

Counseling – General

Our student counseling services consist of three areas. Our counselors assist students with the proper selection of courses that will lead to their preferred pathway to university. They also assist students with their university applications during their senior year in grade twelve or on the UPP. There are also times in a student’s life at school when they need someone to talk to. Our counselors are trained to help students with emotional or social support when required.

Culturally Specific Officers

Our Community Liaison (counseling) staff is chosen to represent the backgrounds of our students. We are proud that we can offer both professional and culturally specific services to all of our students. We can offer counseling services to our students from our local community as well as culture-specific language groups. We have counselors on staff who speak English, and Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese) as well as other foreign languages to meet the needs of our students.

University Liaison Program

Our University Liaison Program, staffed by experienced educators with connections to Canadian universities and colleges, offers both an academic program and an individual counseling program to ensure each graduating student receives the most up-to-date information to guide them in their decision-making.

Accommodation

Many of our students live in the Greater Toronto area and live at home. For students who come from farther away, in Ontario, other parts of Canada, or abroad, TWS has agreed with a highly regarded organization to provide a homestay program for students coming from afar.

Meals

Meal services can be provided for the students at the school. Managed and supervised by experienced professionals, the meals served are nutritious and well-balanced.

Extracurricular Activities

A well-rounded student is a student who engages in school activities beyond the classroom. These extracurricular activities are important components of the overall education of our students, whereby students demonstrate their skills and talents and cultivate a sense of community. By participating in musical, drama, and sports events, community volunteer work, and other activities sponsored by the school, students learn how to develop leadership skills and appreciate their civic duties and responsibilities conducive to living with others in harmony.

Custodianship

TWS accepts both local students and those from abroad. The Canadian Government requires any student under the age of 18 to have a custodian (guardian) who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. For local students, that is usually the parent. Students arriving from abroad will need to have a guardian appointed while the student is studying in Canada. The role of the guardian is to act in place of the parent when the parent is not in Canada and therefore, unable to be available when needed. Many students have a relative or friend who acts as the student’s guardian while the student is studying at TWS. In place of a friend or relative, TWS is prepared to act as the guardian as long as the student is attending TWS. As part of our service, TWS staff will keep you informed and seek your advice concerning decisions that need to be made while your son/daughter is attending our school.

Medical Insurance

Every student studying at TWS requires medical coverage. Residents of Ontario are covered by Ontario government health insurance. TWS requires students, whose parents are not residents of Canada, to take out the medical insurance that is offered by the school to protect students should they need medical attention. We will be happy to provide you with a copy of the Health Insurance policy upon request.
